Summary The role of ad hoc/casual pool lifeguard is to ensure the safe use, opening and closure of the pool, to deal with incidents effectively and to perform other lifeguard duties as required. The role will also be to ensure that all users follow Epsom College policy. All lifeguard positions are subject to pool tests which will assess your physical fitness to undertake the role and lifeguard knowledge.
Be responsible for safe use of the pool facilities. Provide pool supervision when required by Epsom College. To react quickly and effectively in emergency situations as trained to in a recognized lifeguard qualification (NPLQ or a qualification recognized by Epsom College). To provide a friendly, efficient service, with the highest standards of customer care for pupils, staff and customers visiting the facilities. Must operate with regards to all Health and Safety legislation, operational procedures and Best Practices.
Main Duties - To open and secure the building and facilities before or after use.
- To liaise with the Swim Co-ordinator and Sports Centre Manager to ensure that any issues are dealt with effectively.
- To carry out duties in accordance with the College's safeguarding procedures.
- To provide First Aid as and when necessary.
- To respond to an emergency quickly and effectively following Epsom College procedures.
- To implement Normal Operating Procedures (NOPs) and Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs).
- To inspect building and ensure it is clean and presentable.
- To put out the necessary equipment and ensure that the changing rooms are ready for use.
- To supervise the use of facilities, ensuring it is appropriate and not excessive, and to supervise the facilities to ensure the safety and welfare of all users at all times, giving appropriate guidance and advice to swimmers as and when necessary.
- To adopt a positive customer focused approach interacting with all users during their visit to the facility.
- To provide an advisory service for all staff members and swimmers.
- To solicit customer feed back and recommend changes as necessary to management.
- At conclusion of session to return the pool in the same state with lanes out and to close and lock up.
- To complete any Health and Safety reports if asked to do so.
Skills and Requirements - Current and valid NPLQ qualification or equivalent
- Able to act and take responsibility and work independently
- Able to follow policies, procedures and protocols
- An understanding and commitment to Safeguarding procedures
- Understanding of health and safety
- Strong customer service approach and excellent communication skills
- Flexible and reliable
Terms and Conditions Salary: £20.44 per hour, paid monthly in arrears on 25th of the month following submission of approved timesheet paid as worked.
Hours: No set or guaranteed hours of working. Shifts will be offered which the lifeguard can accept or decline.
Holidays: In addition to the rate above, holiday entitlement is calculated on a monthly basis based on the hours you have worked and have submitted for payment. The calculation is 12.07% of the hourly rate for each hour worked and the amount of holiday pay paid to you for that month will be itemised on the payslip as "holiday pay".
Pension: The College operates the Epsom College Automatic Enrolment Scheme. The Scheme is administered by the Pensions Trust. Eligibility is based on statutory criteria. If eligible, the Employee will be required to contribute a minimum of 5% of Basic Salary and the College will contribute 4% in compliance with current legislation
Life Assurance: Active and contributing members of the College pension scheme are provided with life assurance x 2 their annual basic salary.
