We're looking for a pastoral assistant to join our Student Services team and help shape a caring, supportive environment where every student can thrive.
In this role, you'll work closely with students, families and colleagues to support wellbeing, promote positive behaviour, and ensure high attendance. You'll be a welcoming face in Student Services, providing day-to-day support, first aid assistance, and pastoral care to help students feel safe, valued and ready to learn.
This is a varied and rewarding role. You'll support students who need extra help, work with colleagues across the school to coordinate care, and help maintain accurate records so every student receives timely support. You'll also help with school duty, liaise with families, and ensure Student Services runs smoothly as a welcoming and organised space.
Key responsibilities
You'll be responsible for:
- providing pastoral support to students, including those in 'at risk' groups, and helping create plans to support their wellbeing and integration into daily school life;
- offering first aid assistance and supporting the safe storage and administration of medication in line with school procedures;
- working with families and colleagues to communicate pastoral, behaviour and attendance concerns, and coordinate support where needed;
- supporting the school's behaviour and attendance policies, helping monitor patterns and implement strategies to improve outcomes;
- maintaining accurate and confidential student records on our management information systems, ensuring information is up to date to support safeguarding and welfare; and
- acting as a welcoming and approachable point of contact in Student Services for students, parents, carers and visitors.
What we're looking for
We're looking for someone who:
- holds GCSE maths and English (grade 4) or equivalent;
- brings background in motivating students and promoting high expectations;
- has strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining accurate records;
- can respond calmly and appropriately to student medical or welfare situations, escalating concerns where necessary;
- has the ability to build trusted relationships with students, families and colleagues, and communicate effectively with warmth and empathy; and
- shows a non-judgemental, caring approach and a genuine passion for supporting all young people.
You'll be willing to complete relevant first aid and medication training, and you'll have basic IT skills. Background using school management information systems, working in a school setting, or providing first aid or student welfare support would be helpful but isn't essential.
